Our goal is to provide 2 fully functional ambulances equiped for the harsh African terrain.
Based on the idea of the Plymouth Dakar rally Bamako Bampots set about with a larger goal in mind. Instead of driving a £100 banger to be auctioned off for charity we chose a hands on idea to support the local community and in turn provide them with the means to support themselves.
To this end we contacted the Mayor of Bamako through the rotary international. The Mayor thankful for any aid we could provide specifically requested any medical equipment and ambulances to be used in the Koulikoro area of Mali.
From then on our goal was simple - to provide the people of this area with 2 fully equipped ambulances which would cope with the dry dusty terrain of the African country. We will when completed have provided immediate emergency aid to over 49,000 people in 220sq Km of Kalaban Coro.
We are a registered charity in the UK and one of the fundemental charters is that all overheads are covered by the trustees. This means that ,unlike some charities, every penny you donate goes directly into buying and fitting mechanical parts, equiping the landrover ambulances and transportation to their destination. All costs such as advertising, fuel to fundraisers, printing of material, postage, rent on garage premesis etc are all covered by the trustees and noone draws a salary.
From our humble beginings in 2006 we have amassed a core supporter group comprising Mike and Mark our Vehicle Engineers, Steve Morris our project manager & core fundraiser, A registered nurse who is our medical professional & professional advise from Blueplex. We aim to raise our funding of £30,000 by the end of 2010. Our numerous supporters all receive individual credit click here.
