Learn About It

Thanks for dropping by we do appreciate the time taken to help support us.
Bamako Bampots is a registered UK charity that works with the Rotary International with an aim to provide 2 Landrover Ambulances to the people of Bamako in Mali. All our overheads, such as advertising, fundraising and rent, are covered by the trustees which means that when you donate 1p tor £1000 that is exactly what goes direct to the provisioning of the ambulances. Every penny counts and your help is appreciated.

We are working hard to provide emergency vehicles and basic medical aid to a population of 11 villages 70 miles away from the nearest hospital. A distance that takes 3 days minimum by foot or mule.

About the project
We are working hard to refurbish two landrover ambulances, these ambulances will be handed to doctor/nurse teams who will use them as field clinics in the villages and as emergency transportation to the 49,000 people almost 50% of whom are children. Using the ambulances to not only provide emergency transport but to ensure that essential pre and post natal care is available and making delivery of malaria treatments and other vaccines accessible reducing the infant mortality rate below 20% and increasing the average age beyond 16 yrs old.

By helping a community to help themselves we ensure their dignity and with decent pre and post natal care we hope to extend the life expectancy beyond 38 yrs old.

About Kabalan Corro
The district of Kalaban Coro encompasses 220 square kilometres and has a population of 49,000 people. Life expectancy at birth is 38 yrs but more than 218 out of every 1000 children, that's over 1:5, do not live beyond 5 Yrs old. 475 out of every 1000 die between the ages of 15 and 60 due to lack of sanitation and medical facitities. That is almost half the population. (figures from World Health Organisation downloaded 18.07.07).

The area has no roads and water is only available at a few wells. Limited electricity means there is a problem with storage of medicines and lack of vehicles results in patients having to traverse 70 miles of desert in order to receive much needed treatment

The mayor of Bamako, Mr Bamba Brahima, has asked for our aid in providing the people of Mali with Ambulances and medical facilities. To date there are no vehicles for either bush clinics, ambulances or emergency paramedic facilities to service and support the 49,000 people residing in the 220 square kilometres of rough terrain.

“In all, the health situation is nothing to write home about as present ones are poorly equipped and in deplorable condition without ambulances to respond to emergencies that have caused several mortality cases. We shall be glad to receive the ambulances and whatever medical aid that you can provide.” Mr Brahima Bamba, Mayor of Bamako.

There is no point in providing useless vehicles that are not capable of working in the harsh terrain of Mali. That is why our funding is· working towards desert hardened Landrover Ambulances. These Vehicles are not to be resold but instead go directly to the Doctors and Nurses in Koulikoro to be used in transporting those in need to the nearest medical facility or to be used as localised mobile health clinics until such times as we can provide funding for their first local clinic staffed by local medical personnel.
